Pregnancy massage is a massage therapy specifically designed for pregnant women. It is also called pre-natal massage. It differs from regular massage in many ways. The pregnant body must be supported using pillows and correct positioning to ensure the comfort and safety of both mother and baby. Expectant mothers are placed in a side-lying position to ensure no additional stress or stretch is placed on the muscles and ligaments around the belly.
Prenatal massage provides a vast array of benefits to both mother and baby. It will relieve fatigue and strain on muscles and joints, improve blood flow and lymphatic flow, increase oxygen flow to the blood, relieve edema (fluid retention and swelling to legs, ankles, feet, arms, and hands), relieve back pain and sciatic pain, relieve headaches, improve sleep, provide relaxation, relieve anxiety and aid in reduction of indigestion and improve overall wellbeing.
